Our new target reinforces our commitment to circularity by increasing the proportion of recycled plastic and steel used in the products we manufacture in our factories. This is an industry-leading approach to incorporating recycled materials into household appliances and we’re proud to lead the way.
The new target will almost double the total weight of recycled materials in our products by 2030, compared to our old target and comprises more than 40% of all material purchased by the Group. As our previous target only included plastics, we have broadened our ambition to include steel, which is the primary material we use to manufacture our products.
Our focus on recycled steel and plastics
Steel is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions — accounting for between 7% and 9% of global emissions.[1] Using recycled steel can have a 58% lower carbon footprint compared with virgin steel.[2]
Utilizing recycled plastics instead of virgin plastics can lead to a carbon emissions reduction of up to 90%.[3] Recycled plastics also play a crucial role in enabling a more circular economy by improving waste management, minimizing reliance on natural resources and keeping valuable materials in continuous use.[4]
The materials we use in our products are responsible for our second largest source of carbon emissions. By using more recycled steel and plastics in our products, we can reduce our emissions and contribute to our Climate Goals.
